“Clean Energy Future” package drives demand for energy efficiency

11th Jul 2011

Yesterday, the Australian Government announced its “Clean Energy Future” package.

The carbon price package will see Australia working to develop an effective response to climate change, with strong support for energy efficiency and cogeneration.

The package proposes $1 billion in grants for cogeneration and energy efficiency projects in industry. In addition, the Clean Energy Finance Corporation (CEFC) would receive $10 billion over five years to invest in two $5 billion streams, one of which will fund energy efficiency and low-emissions technologies such as cogeneration.

A further $330 million has been earmarked for Low Carbon Communities, including $200 million for local government and community organisations to undertake energy efficiency upgrades on their buildings. This includes cogeneration, sub-metering, smart meters and the installation of building management systems.

The push for a greener future will see many organisations seeking building energy efficiency solutions, which can help to reduce both carbon footprint and energy costs.

A.G. Coombs is a recognised expert in energy efficiency in buildings. Currently involved in numerous tuning and operational initiatives with some of Australia’s largest property owners to substantially reduce the carbon footprint of their buildings, A.G. Coombs is also engaged in a number of significant green projects including:

  • New Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, designed and constructed to be one of Australia’s greenest major hospitals.
  • ANZ’s award winning 6 Star Headquarters.
  • A number of fully integrated tri-generation and cogeneration installations for data centres, commercial buildings, hospitals, food processors and the automotive industry.
  • Energy Performance Contracts for property owners and as part of the Victorian Governments Green Government Buildings Program.
