A.G. Coombs Apprentice Wins Industry Training and Achievement Award

A.G. Coombs Service Technician Ben O’ Brien has been awarded the prestigious Air-Conditioning and Mechanical Contractors' Association Training Achievement award for 2010. Ben was named as the winner of the award at the AMCA annual industry gala dinner on August 7.

The event was held at the Grand Ballroom, Sofitel on Collins where a record number of guests attended. In presenting the Victorian award AMCA Victorian President Russell Telford said, Ben was selected as the Apprentice of the Year from a particularly strong field of apprentices. In accepting the award Ben thanked his Grandfather, a retired refrigeration mechanic, for introducing him to the trade.

Paul Eagling, General Manager of A.G. Coombs Servicing, said that Ben had been an outstanding apprentice who had excelled at every stage of his training and had a very bright future in the industry at A.G. Coombs.

The Award is the culmination of a very successful apprenticeship for Ben who is also the winner of the Allan Coombs Training Award in 2008. Ben has worked on a wide variety of equipment and systems in a many different buildings during his apprenticeship, working with a number of senior experienced tradesmen. He is currently responsible for maintaining HVAC plant at the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne, and a number of other sites.

Ben’s achievement is testament to A.G. Coombs long and proud history of investing in the development of apprentices as the future of the organisation and the industry. This outstanding result is a credit to the strength of the A.G. Coombs Apprenticeship Program and the individuals involved.
